About Our Oatcakes

What are Staffordshire oatcakes?

Staffordshire oatcakes are soft, savoury pancakes made from oatmeal, flour, yeast, and water. They’re traditionally cooked on a griddle and filled with sweet or savoury ingredients. Not to be confused with the Scottish version, ours are warm, filling, and famously versatile.

Are Povey’s oatcakes made fresh?

Yes, we bake all our oatcakes fresh daily in our Staffordshire bakery using a secret family recipe passed down through generations.

What’s in a Povey’s oatcake?

Our traditional oatcakes are made from fine oatmeal, plain flour, salt, bicarbonate of soda, yeast, and water, with no artificial additives or preservatives.

Are your oatcakes suitable for vegetarians?

Yes. Our oatcakes are vegetarian-friendly. They contain no meat, fish, or animal-based ingredients.

Are your oatcakes vegan?

Yes, our traditional oatcakes are also suitable for vegans; just be sure to add your own plant-based fillings.

Do your oatcakes contain any allergens?

Our traditional oatcakes contain gluten (from flour and oats). The gluten-free mix is made with certified gluten-free ingredients; however, please note that it is produced in a facility that also handles wheat products.
