Our History
Povey’s Oatcakes has been proudly producing traditional Staffordshire oatcakes for over 25 years, using a special secret family recipe passed down through generations. The business was founded in 1994 by Steve Povey, who began selling a range of freshly made products from their first shop in Biddulph. A familiar face in the local community, Steve grew up in Leek and was a well-known councillor and passionate supporter of the area. After Steve’s passing in 2011, his son Alex Povey, then just 23 years old, stepped in to continue his father’s legacy. Under Alex’s leadership, Povey’s Oatcakes has gone from strength to strength, producing oatcakes and other bakery favourites daily from a modern production facility. Today, Povey’s continues to serve the Biddulph community while expanding their reach across the UK and beyond, even sending online orders as far afield as Japan, where a recent shipment delighted staff at Barclays Bank.
